Literature of the solo accordion by Czech authors post 1960 and its pedagogical outcome

This dissertation work is concerned with Czech composers who composed for the solo accordion. These composers cover a range of individual generations of composition from the earliest born through to the youngest. There is a brief introduction to each composer along with their compositions for solo accordion including the characteristics of each individual composition and the circumstances of their creation. The dissertation work then presents the chronological development of Czech compositions for the solo accordion from the very beginning up to the present. It is also focuses on the teaching of the accordion within the context of the Czech education system. A very important part of this work is the evaluation of a survey conducted in the form of a questionnaire addressing teachers of the accordion at Czech conservatoires which was a probe into the current situation regarding the teaching of this instrument and the utilization of compositions for the accordion for teaching. This work should profit pedagogy of the accordion in the Czech Republic and should assist in its orientation with regards to the original literature for the accordion.

The diploma thesis deals with the contemporary works of selected Cypriot composers for violin. Throughout the centuries, since ancient times until today, Cyprus has been under the influence of many foreign conquerors including the Arabs, Venetians, Franks, Ottomans, and the English, among many others, who passed through Cyprus and left their marks on Cypriot cultural life. Natives, occupiers, and continuously migrating populations from Europe, Asia, and Africa formed a multicultural environment, where languages, religions and dogmas, ethnic traditions, education, and living standards have been diverse, and in constant interaction and transformation. It is necessary to mention the current violent division between the Greek and Turkish people has still not been overcome. This conflict has left an indelible mark on musical traditions. Cypriot folklore is also reflected in the work of the modern generation of composers. I believe that Cypriot classical music is a not very commonly known issue in the Czech Republic, and I have written this thesis in the hopes that it will increase awareness of Cypriot music. This thesis titled orchestr Berg is divided in several chapters. It ´s occupied with founding of the orchestra, speaks about its history, mentions important landmarks (turning points), and enumarates the most significant projects. But first of all this thesis highlights the influence of this ensemble on the Czech musical scene. As his long - time member I want to point out the exceptionality of this ensemble. And I would like also to give the idea to persons who probably haven´t heard before about the BERG.

TECTONICS OF THE 20th AND 21st CENTURY MUSIC FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF COMPLEX ANALYSIS OF MUSIC STRUCTURE

This dissertation tries systematicaly contain rarely reflected phenomenon of tectonics. Its aim is to explore tectonics as a dynamic process of structuring focused on the structures of 20th and 21st century music. This thesis portrays tectonics as a comprehensive tool of articulation of music and sound material in general. It reflects the current state of research on home field and brings partial views of the world, where, however, faces terminological difference and practical absence of tectonics as a term and as a musicological field or discipline. Tectonics conceived as a systematic discipline reflecting the tectonics as a phenomenon is to some extent the Czech (Czechoslovak) specifics. Within its own concept of tectonics of contemporary music the thesis presents general tectonic scheme of the structuring process. In the range of this work is structure defined as a system and some tectonic functions and principles are described too. The dissertation, however is honestly trying, not aspire to be a comprehensive, complete and systematicly perfect concept of tectonics. In terms of variability and evolution of musical language, which is tectonics an organic part of, it is not even possible. Nevertheless, we believe that this thesis will provide useful insight and possible introduction to closer examination of tectonics as a key phenomenon of structuring the musical substance.
Specifics of Compositional Thinking in Contemporary Estonian Music

Bachelor thesis Specifics compositional thinking in contemporary Estonian music aims to cover the information gap in the field of Estonian cultural sites within the Czech Republic, focusing on naming the general characteristics of the individual compositional aesthetics last five decades. In the first section, the text focuses on the cultural and historical aspects of Estonian territory, including linguistic, ethnic and folklore specifics. The second section seeks to map the common features of modern compositional thinking and seeks their origin in folk music, in particular experiencing nature and religiosity. The third section contains a detailed analysis in many respects a significant composition of Estonian Veljo Tormis Raua needmine, which I try to substantiate its previous premises.
Music speech of Jiri Teml and analysis of his composition Teatro Piccolo for Bassoon and Piano

Life and work of contemporary composer and pianist Adam Skoumal

In this B.A. thesis, life and work of a Czech contemporary composer and pianist Adam Skoumal are discussed.The artist is introduced to its readers from his very musical onset making his way up until now. The thesis focuses on his musical language and style together with the description of his piano, violin, chamber, vocal and even children`s pieces work. Being also a piano virtuoso, his two piano compositions are thoroughly analysed - namely Variations on a folk song and Concerto no. 2 for piano and string orchestra. On these pieces the problematics of contemporary artists writing in traditional style and therefore of unwanted borrowing of older works and also the question of arrangements after being introduced to the public are all demonstrated.
Inspiration of comtemporary pieces

Contemporary music for clarinet is today often part of a clarinettists repertoire and contemporary compositions are normally included in compulsory repertoire of world competitions. For every player is necessary to know about contemporary music and have an informations about modern techniques which offer clarinet sound. This thesis deals with contemporary efects in theoretical and practical point of view. In the same time explores influence of contemporary music over the young clarinet players and describes their succes in create these techniques. This work also follow up three solo pieces for clarinet: Jörg Widmann - Fantasie, Slavomír Hořínka - Ruáh, Tiberiu Oláh - Sonata. There is a theoretical and practical preview about these compositions and also their influence on audience. One chapter is devoted to personality of clarinettist Karel Dohnal, pathfinder for contemporary clarinet music.
